What is the Community Forest Management Working Group?

Organizations are increasingly using electronic means to collect field data and input the data into a web-accessible application. The advantage of using a mobile device as a data collection tool, over paper forms, is the ability to collect GPS location, photos, video, audio and use a keyboard to get data into an electronic format on a web-enabled mobile device.

Currently, the platform that Google has supported is the Android-based Open Data Kit suite of tools. Google.org has helped fund a University of Washington project to create the ODK suite. Meanwhile, other organizations have been developing their own in-situ data collection applications on rugged mobile devices for field data collection.

Welcome to Community Forest Management Working Group. Our first Working Group meeting is June 20-21, 2011.

Our next focus for the Community Forest Monitoring working group will be a working policy paper developed by Global Canopy Programme. If you are interested in further information, please contact Mandar Trivedi at m.trivedi (@) globalcanopy.org!
